I-69 Community Outreach

PROJECT SUMMARY.
This bi-state project is a collaboration between the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) to provide a critical link between the two states’ I-69 corridors. This project reinitiated the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) process that includes As part of the required NEPA work to create the DEIS and FEIS related to the corridor study which determined a preferred route for this interstate connection, there was a significant effort related to public involvement outreach initiatives.
TSWDG worked as part of the public involvement team to communicate the process, progress and gather public input throughout the NEPA process. This includes efforts with the River Cities Advisory Committee (RCAC), general public and many support tasks such as website maintenance and graphic creation / support. In addition, TSWDG provides a full-time Public Outreach Coordinator for the project. This position includes meeting with the general public to answer any questions they have about the project, and staffing two offices, one in Henderson, KY and one in Evansville, IN. The Public Outreach Coordinator is involved in project update and planning meetings, and also coordinates communication with the various advisory committees. This position also serves as the local point of contact for the subcontractors when they are working in the project area. TSWDG was in charge of staffing the project offices as part of the local community outreach and also assisted with providing visual content for the I-69 ORX social media sites (Facebook, I-69 Ohio River Crossing and Twitter, @I69ORX). Hundreds of people have attended open houses, hundreds of comments have been received and numerous studies have been launched.
