Site Design and Placemaking
Commons of Daviess County
Washington, Indiana
PROJECT SUMMARY.
Taylor Siefker Williams Design Group created preliminary design concepts for a new community plaza in Downtown Washington, IN that would serve the greater Daviess County community. The client group was provided four design concepts for the downtown location, each showcasing a different configuration and scaling of main amenities for the plaza. Initial programmed elements for the site included a bandshell, concession and restroom building, market pavilion, spray pad, event lawn, and a flexible parking plaza with an overhead structure to extend the season of use.
Components of the concepts went through a series of 3-D modeling and sketching of illustrative graphics for client feedback as well as for use in marketing and fundraising purposes. Refinement of the final concept came out of a nearly year-long, collaborative process engaging stakeholders at both the city and county levels. The final conceptual vision for articulated as a result of this process is expected to be implemented in a series of phases.
